Prepare for a newborn session {Pewaukee Waukesha County WI newborn and family portrait photographer}

Whether it's your first baby or your fourth, getting ready for a newborn photo session is tricky and can be stressful.  Newborn photos are best taken within the first 10 days of life because they are still extremely sleepy and posable.  I know that the first days home from the hospital are hard...baby may cry a lot or display fussiness, there's lack of sleep at night (so everyone is tired), mom is still recovering, etc...I hear ya.  Those days are not completely erased from my memory!  There's definitely an adjustment period with a newborn.

There are some things that mom and dad can do before a newborn photo session to help it run more smoothly.

1.  Dress lightly.  I will have the heater on at about 85 degrees.  This ensures that the baby is warm and comfortable.  We. Will. Be. Sweating.

2.  Keep baby up as much as possible before the shoot, at least an hour.  This will help us during the shoot for when we need baby to fall sleep.

3.  Hold off, if possible, on feeding baby until I arrive.  I think it helps for baby to be eating while having me there.  There's something to be said about having baby become familiar with my voice.  With a full tummy, baby will be happy and ready for a nap when we begin.

4.  Schedule a newborn session for the morning.  As you may know (or will find out), newborns like to be up later in the evening and into the night.  Sleepiest times are the mornings.

5.  If you have headbands, blankets, or props you'd like incorporated into the photos, have them ready.  We will definitely try to get to everything.

Newborns are all different.  Some may sleep the entire time and not care how much they are changed and moved around...and some will fight it! LOL No worries because wide awake shots are just as precious.

Talk to you soon!

XO,

Jinnee
